2019 Sierra Donna

“Sierra” is Spanish for Mountain Range, “Donna” is Italian for Woman. So, Woman of the Mountains. This vino tavola white wine blend takes its cue from a more modernist Italian approach, using certified organically grown Sauvignon Blanc as the base. Tropical fruit and grapefruit are very expressive in the nose and mid-palate. This wine has a bright, clean finish that is sure to make it a favorite around the BBQ. Only 250 cases produced.

2018 Mark's Magia

In only its sixth vintage, Mark’s Magia has quickly become a favorite. It is an interesting wine to make, our Negroamaro is generally ready to drink earlier than most of the wines we make, and when we blend it into our Primitivo, it seems to transfer that quality to the finished blend. 18 months in barrel and 6 months in bottle, while typical for California reds in general, is pretty quick for us. With this vintage I increased the percentage of Negroamaro, bringing out a bit more of the black tea and clove spiciness in the mid-palate. This is a classic blend of the Puglia region of southern Italy. Only 115 cases produced. $32/bottle ($25.60/bottle to CPWS members)

2017 Aglianico

This is our eighth Aglianico. Our 2017 MV&W Aglianico is an outlier. The nose is much more restrained than is typical of our Aglianico, with hints of dry fruit and chalky cocoa. The mid-palate is deep, and requires a bit of time to open up. It certainly shows the pronounced tannins that Aglianico in general, and MV&W Aglianico in particular, is known for. The noticeable, well-integrated tannins make this a fine wine with any meal. While somewhat obscure in California, Aglianico is widely grown in the Basilicata region of Italy. Aglianico is considered to have been the best wine produced during the era of the Roman Republic. Only 119 cases produced. $32/bottle Chicago Park Wine Society Price: $25.60/bottle Silver Medal, 2020 Sunset Magazine Commercial Wine Competition

2015 Teroldego

Teroldego is Italian for "Gold of the Tyrol Hills", aptly named as it is mostly grown in the regions of South Tyrol and Trentino. Our Teroldego has typically been a big, black meaty wine with a lot of black licorice on the palate. Our vintage 2015 Teroldego continues this tradition, adding a hint of anise to the finish which is complimented with well structured tannin. Renowned wine critic Dan Berger describes our Teroldego wine as “very highly recommended, an impressive entry and a rich palate”. Wine Enthusiast magazine says “most definitely interesting...would be stellar with barbeque.” $32/bottle Chicago Park Wine Society Price: $25.60/bottle Silver Medal ~ 2020 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

2018 Negroamaro

Negroamaro is Italian for "black" (negro) and "bitter" (amaro). Oddly named because the wine is not particularly dark, and it definitely is not bitter. This is our seventh Negroamaro. Strong black tea spiciness, with a hint of cinnamon. This is another obscure varietal, grown primarily in the Puglia region along the Adriatic coast. We produced 100 cases of this rare and beautiful wine, so we will sell out of this wine fairly quickly. Retail: $30/bottle Chicago Park Wine Society Price: $24/bottle Silver Medal ~ 2020 Sunset Magazine Wine Competition .

2017 Barbera

Our 2017 takes Barbera’s natural fruitiness and acidity to new heights. We source the grapes from Viani Vineyard on Pilot Hill, working with owner Steve Viani to ensure we harvest as ripe as viticulturally possible while maintaining a good pH balance. Big fruit, MV&W’s signature earthy/complex mid-palate, nice cleansing acidity in the finish. 70 cases produced. $28/bottle ($22.40/bottle CPWS members) Silver Medal ~ 2020 West Coast Wine Challenge

2017 Dolcetto

Garnet is a color often used in wine description, typically inappropriately intended to mean something very dark and deep in color. If you ever look at a garnet stone, yes, it is red, but it also refracts a lot of light when polished, making it appear translucent. Thus it is with this vintage of Dolcetto. Give it a minute to open up in the glass and you get hints of herbs, mostly spearment. The fruit in the mid-palate is deep, the finish is bright for a deep red wine. This wine says to me “chicken on the Barbie!” Only 90 cases produced.

2016 Nebbiolo

As with many things related to Italian wine varietals, no one really knows how the Piedmonte grape Nebbiolo got its name. One theory is that it is related to a dense fog that is prevalent during fall harvest season in the Langhe region where much of Nebbiolo is grown (fog in Italian is “nebbia”). I prefer the idea that it comes from the Italian for “Nobile”, meaning Noble. Nebbiolo is a notoriously hard grape to grow well. That there are only 155 acres of it grown in California is testament that not too many vineyardists even try. This vintage of Nebbiolo follows in the footsteps of our Cal State Fair “Best of Class” 2013 Nebbiolo. It is somewhat lighter in body than the 2013 (reflecting the warmer, drier growing season), almost bordering on being “rose-ish”. As often happens with Nebbiolo, its light color is deceiving, this wine has the body, mouthfeel and complex flavor profile of a high-end Pinot Noir. I only made 90 cases. $30/bottle $24/CPWS Price. Gold Medal (92 Points) - 2020 Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition.

2018 Sierra Bella

Sierra Bella is Italian for "Beautiful Sierra". This Super-Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Primitivo, Teroldego and Barbera is indeed a beautiful wine. The Sangiovese gives this wine a pleasing acidity and earthiness, the Teroldego and Barbera provide a fruit lushness, the Primitivo pulls everything together. And at $20.00, it is a beautiful bargain as well! ($16 CPWS) Silver Medal ~ 2019 California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition

2016 Teroldego

Teroldego is Italian for "Gold of the Tyrol Hills", aptly named as it is mostly grown in the regions of South Tyrol and Trentino. The nose of this wine is pretty earthy (a Montoliva hallmark) with a subtle fruit and spice on the nose. On the palate…WOW, this is a really BIG wine. A big juicy mouthful of plum and pepper spice. Waitaminute, did I make this wine?! If it was more jammy I’d swear this wine was made down in Lodi. Oh wait, the finish is slightly pungent, sort of a tobacco leaf spiciness. You’re not going to get that kind of nuance from a Lodi wine. The tannins are moderately high with a nice lingering dryness, this is one of the more tannic Teroldegos I’ve made in a while. $32/bottle Chicago Park Wine Society Price: $25.60/bottle Silver Medal ~ 2020 Sunset Magazine Commercial Wine Competition

2016 Primitivo

Our 2016 Primitivo follows in the tradition of our Primitivo exhibiting a distinct white pepper spiciness in the finish. For a long time it was believed that Primitivo and Zinfandel were the same grape; we now know that they are in fact two separate clones of an obscure Croatian grape, Crljenak Kastelanski. Primitivo is known for being a bit early ripening than Zinfandel, and having a more dry, tannic character than Zinfandel. In looking for similarities between our Primitivo and Zinfandel, don't look to Lodi for inspiration...our Primitivo is lighter on its feet, has more structure, less jam/more spice, with the earthiness typical of a Puglian Primitivo. Think more along the lines of an upper Russian River Valley Zinfandel. $30/bottle Chicago Park Wine Society Price: $24/bottle SOLD OUT

2016 Due Baci

I am very particular about Due Baci. Italian for “Two Kisses”, I first made this blend (only about 5 cases of it) in 2008 from vintage 2006 estate grapes. The occasion was my wedding to my soul mate and muse, Julianne. Our guests liked it so much I decided to continue producing it. The last time I produced a Due Baci blend was from vintage 2014…like I said, I’m particular about it. This vintage is a blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Aglianico. I make this wine to be dry and lean, perfect for my favorite meals, which usually include a spicy marinara sauce and some well seasoned chicken. Only 85 cases produced. SOLD OUT
