Our Due Baci blend is always predominately Sangiovese, with just enough Aglianico to give the wine bit more fruit pop. It is not very often that I do “special” bottlings of my wines. I’d like to think that all my wines are special, and compelling in their own way. When I do a “special” bottling, it is almost always a blend. Some blends just shout out for being held in barrel longer. Thus it was with our 2018 Due Baci. I just knew this was going to be a wine with “legs”. So, at bottling time, I put 250 gallons of this blend back in to barrel for an extra year of barrel aging. The “original” release, which occurred in 2020, won a Gold Medal at the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. I think you will agree that this “special” release, really is special. A hint of dried fruit and earth in the nose, the dry but well integrated finish really gives a nice platform for the pepper spice on the back of your tongue.
