2006 Sinistra
The pinnacle of winemaking is to be able to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Montoliva Vineyard & Winery's 2006 Sinistra is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Aglianico. Each one of these wines, on their own, are very good. The Sangiovese and the Aglianico are both magnificent. When we sit down at the kitchen table to try out different percentages of these wines together (hey, someone's gotta do it), we are looking for lightning in the glass. We strive for that "A-Ha!" moment when a little of this, a touch of that, just a bit more of this other one creates a wine that both reflects, and compliments the various components. We captured that "Lightning in a Bottle" with our '05 Sinistra, and sold through it all in a matter of months. We believe the '06 Sinistra to be a worthy successor.
Sinistra is Italian for Left (our winemaker is left-handed...and boy don't we know it!). It is also where we get the English word "sinister". We think you will agree that this blend of 45% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet, 25% Syrah and 5% Aglianico reflects the creativity that lefties are known for, and is indeed, very dark, and just a bit sinister.
