Since planting the vineyard in 2000, Julianne and I have had a singular vision - to create Italian varietal wines that are true to their heritage, while still being distinctly Californian. We believed that by planting Italian varietal grapes, especially Sangiovese, in the higher elevations of the North Sierra Foothills, and eschewing modernist, New World style winemaking in favor of traditional Tuscan winemaking, that we could produce wines with the nice fruit flavor that Calfornia reds are known for, AND maintain the underlying gravitas of Tuscan wines (boy, that was a mouthful!). Have we succeeded? We'll let the SF Chronicle take it from here.
